Namib Mills and Feedmaster, alongside the Namibian Agricultural Union, hosted a braai competition called The NAU Braaifees last weekend. Not only has it become one of the social calendar events of the year, but it also plays a big role in the economy of the reigning champ’s agricultural region. This year it was hosted by the Uhlenhorst district in Mariental. Each division had its own judges but fall under the same rules with Arnold Tanzer from South Africa as the head judge. The teams were officially introduced before the Friday night dance that went on until the early hours of the morning.

At 6am Saturday morning all the teams convened to get their supplies. For main course each team had to use Springbok saddle, Bakpro Wheat Flour, Sweet potato and tomato. Here we were allowed some of our own ingredients. The agricultural division was won by Kalkrand Boere-Vereniging with Willie & Jacolize Bergh and Victor & Elodi Boshoff heading up the team. They won R40 000 for their team and R300 000 as kitty for Kalkrand to host next year’s NLU Agribraai (www.nluagribraai.com)

With 30 braai team, 63 stalls and hundreds of people attending from all over, this was a major success of a stakeholder event for both Namib Mills, the individual brands and Feedmaster alike.
