PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Ensure the availability of quality raw materials to the mills by means of proper intake procedures, housekeeping and storage.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Stock:

  • On arrival, identifies grain by grading and analysing of samples.
  • Confirm conformance to quality requirements and allocate grain to predetermined silos for safe keeping.
  • Ascertain that slides are working properly in order to avoid unplanned blending on different types of grain.
  • Report non-conformance to quality requirements to the Production Manager for corrective action.
  • Notify Millers and Production Manager daily of the silo contents, i.e., type of raw material, quantities in stock etc.
  • To determine stock levels, obtain transfer figures from millers to compare with intake and stock figures from previous day.
  • Inspect grain in silos on a regular basis to ascertain the absence of infestation.
  • On detection of infestation immediately to notify the Day Shift Miller & Production Manager for the necessary corrective actions.

Maintenance:

  • Plan and co-ordinate proper internal maintenance according to a fixed plan with the Workshop Foreman to ensure the maximum availability of the plant as well as the efficiency of the plant with regards to cost effectiveness. Keep the Production Manager informed of all developments.
  • Inspect plant regularly to verify the condition of the plant and to institute preventative maintenance where required.

Hygiene:

  • Ensure proper housekeeping at intake and the silos by attending to the check and cleaning of equipment.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping at the intake area and silos by overseeing thorough cleaning each time a silo bin is emptied, and arranging for fumigation as required. (Refer Fumigation Program Namib Mills and inspections from Workshop).
  • Ensure proper housekeeping at intake and the silos by treating incoming grain as prescribed from time to time.

Administration:

  • Control Time and Attendance of subordinates.
  • Prepare daily report on silo activities for Production Manager.
  • Arrange regular shunts by TransNamib to ensure the continuous discharge of grain when needed.

Occupational Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Report monthly on incidents and corrective action taken on occupational safety.

Personnel:

  • Monitor staff with regards to punctuality at the workplace as well as the absenteeism from the workplace.
  • Plan and organize tasks taking into consideration priorities and available workforce.
  • Compile and manage leave rotation programs for staff members.
  • Arrange for protective clothing and equipment needed to ensure productivity.
  • Maintain acceptable discipline and productivity by means of disciplinary hearings.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff members in collaboration with the Production Manager.

General:

  • Execute ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Production Manager from time to time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or Grade 10 (NQF Level 2).
  • Wheat Grading Certificate and/or Maize Grading Certificate.
  • Fumigation Training certification.
  • Safety Training certificate, such as Firefighting and/or First Aid.

Experience:

  • Relevant work experience in a similar role will be an added advantage.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • In the absence of a valid Maize and/or Wheat Grading Certificate, the candidate must be willing to undertake external training as prescribed by the company.
  • Continued employment in this position is conditional upon the successful completion of the required training and passing of related assessments.

OTHER

  • Computer Literate.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Namibian Citizenship.
